The Boston Red Sox had to spend $120 million to win the Alex Bregman sweepstakes last offseason, but with the opt-out clause in Bregman’s deal, he could be headed back to free agency this winter.If Bregman opts out, his free agency sweepstakes will be a hot one again, as the veteran is likely looking for a long-term deal worth close to $200 million.Sports Illustrated’s Patrick McAvoy recently suggested the Red Sox were one of the top suitors in the Bregman sweepstakes, assuming the veteran opts out of his contract after this season. He’s seemingly loved his time in Boston, and the Red Sox seem to love having him in town.It would be an expensive deal to get done, but this is the kind of move the Red Sox desperately need to make to continue their pursuit of the World Series.Bregman’s potential free agency could make or break the Red Sox’ offseason.
