23-year-old sentenced for deadly road-rage shooting

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – A St. Louis man pled guilty in court last Friday, Sept. 5, regarding a fatal road-rage shooting that claimed the life of one person and injured a child. Court records say that between Oct. 15 and Dec. 28, Cameron Bernard fired a gun at another vehicle, which had three occupants inside—two of those being children. Bernard—who was inside of a stolen vehicle—fatally shot Ryan Hampton and critically injured one of the minors. Officials say Bernard also fled the scene with the supposed murder weapon. “There are far too many guns on our streets and on our roads, and far too many people resort to firearms for little or no reason,” said St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Melissa Price Smith. Bernard—who is now 23 years old—was convicted of second-degree murder, as well as these other charges: He was sentenced to 22 years in prison.
