‘They Sabotage You’: Muzammil Ibrahim On How Bollywood Treats Outsiders

Muzammil Ibrahim has been involved in the film industry for over a decade now. The actor has experienced a range of ups and downs throughout his career. In his latest interview, he joined the insiders vs outsider debate.
The actor stated that Bollywood filmmakers undermine outsiders who appear to be potential stars of the future.
In an interview with Filmygyan, Muzammil Ibrahim said he has seen Kartik Aaryan and Sushant Singh Rajput go through this discrimination. He said, “If you’re too good, they will sabotage you. There is a narrative that is carried out for you. Har ladke ne who is good enough has faced it. I have seen Kartik and Sushant go through it. The boys who have the potential to become an A-League star, not somebody who is a threat to stars. Only those who have potential face this.”
Muzammil Ibrahim’s Traumatic Debut
The Kashmiri model-turned-actor, who rose to prominence after winning the Gladrags Manhunt Contest and appearing in hit music videos, described his first film experience as profoundly traumatic in an interview with Hindi Rush.
Speaking about Pooja Bhatt’s Dhokha, his debut at the age of 21, Muzammil says the atmosphere on set left him shaken, and he’s still dealing with the consequences years later. “I had not experienced a toxic environment before. I was not used to cuss words. It was a very traumatic experience for me,” he said.

Although his debut experience was traumatic, Dhokha earned him a nomination for Best Male Debut at the 53rd Filmfare Awards. His other projects include the film Will You Marry Me? and the webseries Special Ops.
