Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao on Tuesday held a preparatory meeting on the ensuing by-election to the Jubilee Hills Assembly Constituency that has fallen vacant after the death of sitting MLA from the party M. Gopinath with party leaders and legislators in the city.
Speaking at the meeting, he said people were highly disappointed with the anti-people’s policies being adopted by the Congress government for the last 22 months. He alleged that the city’s economy, particularly the realty sector, was crestfallen following the terror atmosphere created by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy in the name of HYDRAA and other policy decisions.
Stating that every section of the society had suffered in the Congress rule so far, he asked the party rank and file to resume the party’s bounce back with a win from Jubilee Hills itself. Mr. Rama Rao said the BRS government had transformed Hyderabad into the growth engine of Telangana with 10 years of hard work, but everything was being dismantled now as the people watched the developments in dismay.
He discussed the party’s strategy for the ensuing by-election to Jubilee Hills constituency, being held by BRS for the last two terms. Gopinath was elected on the Telugu Desam Party’s ticket in the 2014 election but switched loyalties to BRS/TRS in 2016. He returned victorious in the 2018 and 2023 elections on the BRS ticket.
Party leaders Ravula Chandrasekhar Reddy, Talasani Srinivas Yadav, L. Ramana, M. Gopal, D. Sravan, T. Ravinder Rao, P. Srinivas Reddy, Farooq Hussain, Mohd. Saleem and others participated in the meeting.
Meanwhile, despite the ruling Congress going all out to win the Jubilee Hills seat, several leaders are aspiring for the BRS ticket. Apart from Gopinath’s widow, his younger brother, former MLA and son of well-known Congress leader P. Janardhan Reddy, P. Vishnuvardhan Reddy, who joined the BRS in 2023 are in the race besides a few sitting corporators.
The Congress has been holding constituency-level meetings with Minister for Agriculture Tummala Nageswara Rao in the lead. Interestingly, Telangana Jagruthi president K. Kavitha, who was suspended by the BRS recently, who quit as BRS member and an MLC reportedly met Mr. Vishnuvardhan Reddy recently.
