'Outstanding' Western is so gripping Netflix viewers are watching it again and again

A Netflix movie offering has been hailed as the “best Western ever made”, with telly addicts across the nation hooked on the gripping drama, as well as the genre in general . The film, described as tense and “quietly haunting”, has become a big talking point, with viewers dubbing it a “must watch.” The film was recently spotlighted by TikTok user Gaz, who revealed that the movie is currently available for streaming on Netflix . Despite being a Paramount production, the film has found its way onto the popular streaming platform, with viewers being encouraged to catch it before it disappears – it’s just that good. In recent months, there’s been a resurgence in love for Westerns, with the genre maintaining its popularity. Just last week, another film was declared a “masterpiece” by viewers nationwide . Penned, directed, produced and edited by the renowned Coen brothers, Joel and Ethan, the American neo-Western crime thriller takes inspiration from Cormac McCarthy’s 2005 novel. No Country For Old Men, starring Tommy Lee Jones, Javier Bardem and Josh Brolin, is set against the barren backdrop of 1980 West Texas. It delves into themes such as fate, conscience and circumstance, which are also explored in other Coen brothers’ classics like Blood Simple (1984), Raising Arizona (1987) and Fargo (1996). The story centres on three key figures: Llewelyn Moss (Brolin), a Vietnam War veteran and welder who stumbles upon a substantial amount of cash in the desert, and Anton Chigurh (Bardem), a ruthless assassin charged with retrieving the stolen funds. Meanwhile, Ed Tom Bell (Jones) serves as the sheriff investigating the bloody trail of violence. Gaz commented: “No Country For Old Men is a must watch movie – whether you’re watching it for the first time or returning for a rewatch. This is a tense and quietly haunting modern spin on the Western genre, and it’s currently available to watch on Netflix. “Javier Bardem is sensational in this movie. It’s a frighteningly dark and upsetting performance as hitman Anton Chigurh yet, interestingly, he’s also able to bring to life an oddly hilarious aspect to the performance and to the character of Chigurh. It’s this duality that makes it a stand-out, thrilling perfomance from Bardem. “The movie itself is as patient as Javier Bardem’s Anton Chigurh – it’s slow, it’s methodical and it takes its time to unfold. That patience means that when you do get the action in the movie, it’s so enthralling and it’s so gripping to watch. Despite the slower pace nature of the movie, there are some tension-filled moments throughout which will keep you on edge.” Gaz revealed there’s a “cat and mouse like chase” running throughout the film, whilst also featuring some “huge moments”. He also believes the picture is beautifully crafted, describing it as simply “gorgeous” to watch. According to him, there are countless cinematic qualities to admire, and he noted that the evening sequences are amongst the finest you’ll witness. Since the clip was posted, it’s racked up numerous views, with viewers rushing to leave comments and express their opinions. They had plenty to say about the film. One declared: “It’s one of the best movies ever made.” Another chimed in with: “This film is a classic. Loved it since day one.” A third responded: “One of my favourites man. No score, just story. Outstanding stuff.” Meanwhile, a fourth wrote: “I love this film. I watched it twice when it was released at the movies. I’ve watched it three more times since then. “This is one of my favourites of the Coen brothers’ films.” Someone else also contributed: “Been on my watch list for years. It is time.”
