BJP MP from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi, Kangana Ranaut, met flood-affected victims in Manali on Thursday and expressed her distress over the financial losses her restaurant suffered as the recent rainfall wreaked havoc in the area.
Ranaut visited the disaster-affected areas of Solang and Palchan in the Manali subdivision of Himachal’s Kullu district, interacted with the affected residents and took stock of the situation. The actor-turned-politician was briefed on the infrastructural and other damages by BJP leader and former MLA from Manali, Govind Singh Thakur, along with residents.
“My restaurant is also here, and it made a sale of only Rs 50 yesterday. We pay Rs 15 lakh in salaries only, and we could only do a business of Rs 50. Imagine what I must have gone through. Please understand my pain. I am a Himachali. I am a single woman. Don’t attack me as if I am not doing anything,” she was heard saying in a viral video.

Ranaut had earlier announced that she would open her first cafe, The Mountain Story, in Manali. However, the café’s business has been hit by record rain and landslide disruptions.
Ranaut’s remarks came as she was interacting with a woman who tried to ask the BJP MP some questions on the flood situation in Himachal Pradesh. However, the BJP MP scolded her by saying, “Have you come to attack me or to question me?… If you come to harass us, how will we be able to work?”
‘Go Back Kangana, You Are Late’ Slogans In Manali
However, several locals expressed their resentment against Ranaut’s visit to Manali by shouting slogans of “go back Kangana, you are late”. Heated arguments were also witnessed when BJP leaders and others accompanying Kangana tried to pacify the residents, and police had to intervene to restore peace.
Locals informed the actor-turned-politician hat the whole Solang village is on the verge of sliding as the Beas River is cutting the mountain on which the village is located. They said diverting the course of the river by channelising the water.
Since the onset of monsoon this year, the Himalayan state has witnessed 46 cloudbursts, 98 flash floods and 145 major landslides, while 419 people have died. Of those dead, 237 lost their lives in rain-related incidents and 182 in road accidents. About 479 people have suffered injuries, while 45 are still missing.
