Cityflo taps transport veteran Victor Nagaonkar to lead Urban bus venture

Cityflo has appointed Victor Nagaonkar, a transport veteran, to help overhaul city bus operations across India as demand for reliable public transit grows.Nagaonkar, who spent more than 40 years with Mumbai’s Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking, joins Cityflo’s new joint venture, Urban Glide, as President.“For millions of Indians, the bus is a lifeline to work, education, and opportunity,” said Nagaonkar. “The shift we need is simple but can create a profound impact if we’re able to deliver reliable, safe, and well-managed bus services that people can trust. With Urban Glide, the opportunity is to build systems that can make this a reality across Indian cities, at scale.”The venture aims to bridge the widening gap between transport policy ambitions and the operational realities of public bus systems across Indian cities. He oversaw citywide bus operations, including route planning, fleet deployment, and crisis management and played a key role in introducing real-time monitoring systems and electronic ticketing. At Urban Glide, he is expected to focus on bridging operational gaps as Indian cities shift to long-term bus contracts and prepare for the rollout of 38,000 electric buses under the central government’s PM-eBus Sewa scheme.Live EventsIndia currently operates just 1.2 buses per 1,000 people—well below global averages—despite rising urban mobility needs. Urban Glide aims to address capacity and service quality shortfalls through operational reforms.India’s bus ecosystem itself is undergoing a structural shift, with long-term Gross Cost Contracts (GCCs) requiring operators to manage fleets for up to 12 years. This transition has exposed a gap between OEMs and operators, many of whom are not yet exposed to the operational expertise to sustain long term city services at scale. Urban Glide, guided by Nagaonkar’s leadership, is working to bridge this gap by building frameworks for planning, driver sourcing and training, technology integration, and service assurance.Add as a Reliable and Trusted News Source Add Now!
