Dr. Hines: “I’ll Be a Steady Hand in Parliament”

In an exclusive interview with Nightly News on Tuesday, Leader of the Working People’s Alliance (WPA) Dr. David Hines spoke candidly about his new role in parliament and his support for Dr. Campbell’s leadership of the APNU parliamentary delegation.

Hines said his role is not only to represent the WPA but also to ensure the coalition delivers on its agenda. While pledging loyalty to Dr. Campbell, he emphasized that his responsibility includes keeping leadership accountable.

“You are my leader. But it does not mean that everything you do I will just fall over and say you do well. My tendency says that you are my leader. I vote for you. You have my confidence. But I’m also there to ensure that you do not deviate from what the society expects you to be,” Hines explained.

He described Dr. Campbell as the “right man for the season,” noting his even-handed leadership, experience, and deep understanding of societal needs.

Hines further argued that Campbell’s background as a scholar of business and an entrepreneur would bring a fresh, balanced perspective to parliamentary discourse.

“He comes from that part of our society that engages in business. He’s an entrepreneur, and so he brings the lens of the entrepreneur to this,” Hines said.

Dr. Hines acknowledged that his parliamentary task will be challenging but insisted that he is prepared to thrive in that environment.
