The Traitors has arrived in Ireland and has made a huge impact on fans of the show.
Hopefully there are many more seasons that people can expect, but before you think of submitting your own application, you should be aware of the rules that contestants need to follow.
From rules that are expected about phones and drinking alcohol, to more unexpected ones regarding smoking and TV remotes, here is everything you should know.
According to researchers from Haypp, stars of The Traitors must adhere to the following rules:
No phones or TV remotes
There is a ‘production phone’ available for an occasional phone call home, but the contestants must still be chaperoned for the entirety of the call. A more surprising item banned on The Traitors, are TV remotes. This is to prevent any information from the outside world from impacting the game. This policy supposedly ensures the game remains completely pure, with no access to the internet or social media, which could reveal spoilers or allow for strategic communication outside the show.
Two drink limit
You might often see the Traitors in the bar area, sometimes even tasked with ‘poisoning a drink’, but contestants on the show have a very limited alcohol allowance, with most former UK contestants reporting a strict one-drink limit per night during filming. Some have mentioned being able to get a second drink later in their rooms after filming, though even then, access is restricted to prevent contestants from becoming intoxicated and potentially revealing secrets or acting rashly.
Smoking and vaping must be supervised
Vaping and smoking rules vary between different reality TV shows but on The Traitors, to the relief of some of the contestants, there is no ban on the use of cigarettes or alternative nicotine products such as vapes or nicotine pouches. However, they cannot be left alone while smoking or vaping. Supervision of smoking and vaping is to help ensure the mystery and integrity of the game, so the Faithful, as they are called on the show, truly are as clueless to the identities of the Traitors as the airing of the show suggests.
Guest can’t roam freely
The 1,500-acre Slane estate, set against the backdrop of the River Boyne, provides “stunning” scenery for The Traitors Ireland. It is used for filming and can be hired for large private events, weddings, and corporate functions. The areas seen on the show are only a portion of the castle. Contestants are also carefully kept in certain areas to avoid them bumping into each other.
Contestants on The Traitors must sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) that prevents them from revealing any details about the show, including the identities of the Traitors, the outcome of the game, or other secrets, before the series has aired. Signing this NDA is a mandatory condition for participation in the show.
