Ukraine has awarded Lord Ashcroft a prestigious honor in recognition of his relentless commitment to the Ukrainian people’s defense in its all-out war with Russia.
During a recent visit to Ukraine – his 13th since the invasion by Russia in February 2022 – Lord Ashcroft was presented with the “Ukraine Above All” medal. This is a symbol of loyalty, courage and Ukraine’s fight for freedom.
The award was made by Lt. Gen. Kyrylo Budanov, the head of Ukraine’s military intelligence, on behalf of his department. The presentation was made at a secret location in Kyiv at which Gen. Budanov praised Lord Ashcroft’s support for Ukraine over the past three and a half years.
Lord Ashcroft said: “I am both hugely grateful and extremely humbled to have been recognized in this way by Gen. Budanov, one of the true heroes of Ukraine in its fight against its Russian aggressor. He and many others know that I will continue to support Ukraine in all ways that I can during these challenging times.”
Lord Ashcroft’s main support for Ukraine has been through his charitable donations and his media work. His donations to good causes include one of £1.3 million to the Olena Zelenska Foundation, a charity run by Ukraine’s First Lady for reconstruction and other humanitarian projects. Lord Ashcroft has also written more than 40 major articles on the war, particularly those championing the courage of Ukraine’s military and civilians.
Lord Ashcroft was sanctioned by Russia last year over his support for Ukraine, which he described as “a badge of honor.” Since 2022, he has visited most major frontline cities and towns for his media work.
