Microsoft raises Xbox console prices in the United States yet again

Microsoft just announced another price increase for its latest line of Xbox consoles. The price increases will go into effect on October 3, 2025. The company says these changes come “due to changes in the macroeconomic environment.”

Beginning on October 3, we will update the recommended retailer pricing for Series S and Series X consoles in the United States due to changes in the macroeconomic environment.
We understand that these changes are challenging, and they were made with careful consideration. Looking ahead, we continue to focus on offering more ways to play more games across any screen and providing value for Xbox players.

Here’s a breakdown of Xbox console pricing as of October 3, 2025 from today’s post:

Xbox Series S 512 GB Model – $399.99 (up from $379.99 in May 2025)
Xbox Series S 1 TB Model – $449.99 (up from $429.99 in May 2025)
Xbox Series X Digital – $599.99 (up from $549.99 in May 2025)
Xbox Series X – $649.99 (up from $599.99 in May 2025)
Xbox Series X 2 TB Galaxy Black Special Edition – $799.99 (up from $729.99 in May 2025)

Today’s announcement is the second time Microsoft has raised console prices since Liberation Day 2025 when the Trump administration began a global trade war with a series of tariff announcements. These Xbox consoles launched five years ago this fall, and now cost more than they did in 2020.

Microsoft has also announced that pricing for controllers and headsets will remain at their previously increased prices from May 2025, and that Xbox product pricing will remain the same in other geographies.

While Microsoft is blaming the price hikes on the United States economy, it is quite obvious to anyone with half a brain cell left that the increasing prices are due to President Trump’s failed trade war. Trillion dollar companies are cowtowing to the billonaire president left and right, with even Apple CEO Tim Cook joining in on the bootlicking.

It might be true that the United States is in economic trouble, but the idea that these consoles will cost more in 2025 because of the economy is too much horse manure to ignore. Prices of many things in the United States are rising because of the impact of tariffs being passed onto consumers. Even Sony and Nintendo have had to increase prices of some of their products this year in response to the hamfisted policies of the Trump administration.
