Conference play is officially underway as the Iowa Hawkeyes travel to Piscataway tonight for a Big Ten matchup with the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.

The Scarlet Knights are 3-0 heading into tonight’s matchup, having earned wins over Ohio, Miami (Ohio) and Norfolk State, but they will face their first real test against the Hawkeyes. Offensively, they have averaged 296.3 passing yards and 164.7 rushing yards per game in their first three contests. On the other side of the ball, their defense has allowed an average of 342.7 yards per game.
The Hawkeyes are 2-1 to start their season. They won their opener against Albany, suffered a narrow three-point loss to No. 12 Iowa State and defeated UMass last weekend. The win over the Minutemen served as head coach Kirk Ferentz’s 206th Big Ten victory, passing Woody Hayes for the most Big Ten wins in conference history.
Iowa has the third-ranked defense in the country, allowing an average of 178 yards per game.
