Cost of housing topic of program in Batavia
The Kane County Democratic Women will host a presentation called “Young Americans and the High Costs to Rent or Own” from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Batavia Public Library, 10 S. Batavia Ave. in Batavia.
The presentation is free and open to the public, according to a press release about the event.
The purpose of the presentation is to bring the community together to discuss the affordability crisis facing anyone who is trying to purchase or rent a home and possible solutions to the situation, event organizers.
It is especially difficult for young people to “get their own place” if they are struggling to save up a rental security deposit or a house downpayment and also repaying student loans, according to event organizers.
Thomas Skuzinski, an associate professor in the Department of Public Administration at Northern Illinois University, will discuss housing issues during the program and the role that urban and regional planning can play in dealing with the problem, organizers said.
