PRESIDENT Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah will on Friday depart for New York, United States of America, to participate in the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), which takes place from 23 to 29 September under the theme “Better Together: 80 Years and More for Peace, Development and Human Rights.”

According to a statement issued by the Presidency, President Nandi-Ndaitwah will lead the Namibian delegation to the UNGA80 High-Level Week from 20 to 26 September.

She will deliver her maiden statement before the UNGA on 24 September.

The President will also participate in a series of high-level engagements, among others, women’s empowerment, sustainable development, climate action, global economic reform, youth, peace and security, and nuclear disarmament.

On the sidelines of the UNGA, President Nandi-Ndaitwah is expected to hold bilateral meetings with fellow Heads of State and Government, as well as attend cultural and business promotion events to showcase Namibia as a destination for trade, investment, and tourism. Key among these is the flagship “Experience Namibia in New York” hosted by the Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB), and a roundtable with global business leaders organised in partnership with the Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU).

Furthermore, on 25 September, President Nandi-Ndaitwah will undertake a working visit to Philadelphia to engage the business community and academia, and to further consolidate relations between Namibia and the tri-state area (Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware).

President Nandi-Ndaitwah will be accompanied by senior government officials and is expected to return to Namibia on 26 September.
