A Man On The Inside
A Man on the Inside was one of the best new comedy series on Netflix last year. The series stars Emmy-winning actor Ted Danson (Curb Your Enthusiasm, Cheers) as Charles, a retiree who takes on the role of a private investigator and becomes a covert operative in a nursing home.
Since season 2 of A Man on the Inside is hitting Netflix in November 2025, now is a great time to dive into this quirky comedy series with crime drama elements. Danson is fantastic in his first leading role in a TV series since Mr. Mayor and The Good Place. He’s joined by a talented ensemble that includes Mary Elizabeth Ellis (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), Lilah Richcreek Estrada (Chicago Med), John Getz (The Social Network), and Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine).
A Man on the Inside season 1 earned a very impressive 96% Certified Fresh Rotten Tomatoes score, along with a 90% audience score, making it universally acclaimed. Danson earned Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild, and Gotham TV Awards nominations for his role. This time around, he may be in line for his 19th career acting Emmy nomination.
Screen Rant gave A Man on the Inside season 1 a rating of 9/10, noting. “The series nails the delicate balance of having fun with the realities of retirement homes and embracing the bittersweetness.” In the same vein, Variety called the series “A charming and hilarious whodunit that examines grief, love and the excitement of new beginnings from the perspective of seniors.”
A Man of the Inside is one of the best new comfort shows on Netflix that is perfect for all ages. At just eight episodes per season, and each episode running about half an hour each, you could easily watch all of season 1 this weekend, giving you plenty of time before season 2 drops on Netflix on November 20, 2025. If you’re looking for a fresh comedy with an old-school vibe and feel-good sensibility, A Man of the Inside is the perfect choice for a binge-watch.
Receiver
With the 2025-2026 NFL season officially underway and heading into Week 3, Netflix’s Receiver could make for a perfect Friday and Saturday binge-watch before NFL Sunday. Although the series was released last year in place of another Quarterback season, all five of its subjects are still incredibly relevant and elite players this season.
Receiver stars five NFL superstars, all either wide receivers or tight ends. They include Amon-Ra St. Brown of the Detroit Lions, Justin Jefferson of the Minnesota Vikings, Davante Adams of the Las Vegas Raiders (who now plays for the Los Angeles Rams), George Kittle of the San Francisco 49ers, and Deebo Samuel of the San Francisco 49ers (who now plays for the Washington Commanders).
While Receiver features footage from the 2023-2024 NFL season, which is certainly old news by now, the true insight of the documentary series is getting to know the men behind the helmets, jerseys, and fame. In a similar fashion to HBO’s Hard Knocks, there is, of course, a focus on football, but the best moments of this type of series is learning who these superstars are as people, family members, teammates, and friends.
Receiver also peels back a lot of the details that the NFL may not want to shed too much light on, such as the various and frequent injuries that come up over the course of any NFL season. Even though you see many of these players suit up on Sundays to compete, a lot of them are battling health issues and lingering injuries despite being ready to play.
If you’re a true NFL fan and enjoyed the two seasons of Netflix’s Quarterback series, then you’ll surely love Receiver. There’s no other series quite like it that only sheds light on the receivers rather than the entire team. Netflix hasn’t confirmed whether they are planning to bring back Receiver for a second season. They may choose to switch it up and focus on another star position, such as running backs.
One of the coolest aspects of Receiver is getting to see how players interact with each other off the gridiron. There are literally dozens of other NFL players who appear in Receiver; some of them are even interviewed to provide more context for the five superstar subjects. They include Brock Purdy, Jared Goff, Kirk Cousins, Maxx Crosby, Christian McCaffrey, Travis Kelce, Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Rodgers, Lamar Jackson, Nick Bosa, Equanimeous St. Brown, Jimmy Garoppolo, Derek Carr, Jameson Williams, Brandon Aiyuk, and more.
Bodyguard
While Adolescence enjoyed a big night at the 2025 Emmy Awards last Sunday, Bodyguard also remains one of the greatest Netflix limited series ever made, even though it doesn’t have all the accolades to back it up. The series was nominated for 2 Emmys but ended up going home with nothing.
Bodyguard stars Richard Madden of Game of Thrones acclaim as a veteran named David Budd who is assigned to protect the Home Secretary, Julia Montague, played by Keeley Hawes. The series also features performances by Sophie Rundle (Peaky Blinders), Vincent Franklin (The Bourne Identity), Paul Reedy (A Gentleman in Moscow), and more.
Bodyguard was released back in 2018 and became a critical hit for Netflix, earning a Certified Fresh 93% Rotten Tomatoes score and a solid 84% audience score. Collider gave the series a 4/5-star rating, calling Bodyguard an “enthralling thriller series [that] should come with warnings about how anxiety-inducing it is, as well as how much you’ll now want Richard Madden to play James Bond.”
Nearly all critics rated Bodyguard highly. The New York Post called it “a tense, tightly plotted thrill ride that makes almost no false moves.” Variety noted, “Both juicy in its delving into character psychology and rippingly ready to tear up its playbook as it goes, it’s a six-episode ride that demands, and rewards, a quick binge.”
Madden’s lead performance is the true highlight of the series, as well as the sharp writing by series creator Jed Mercurio (Line of Duty, Bodies). While there was initial speculation that Bodyguard would return for a second season, with Mercurio even talking openly about expanding the series, Netflix has decided not to move forward. The series was even categorized as a drama series, instead of a limited series, at the 2019 Emmys because a second season was more or less expected.
