A trash-collector strike in the Boston area is ending after nearly three months, bringing relief to residents and business owners forced to contend with overflowing dumpsters during the hottest months of the year.
Republic Services Inc. reached a five-year collective bargaining agreement with a local chapter of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, the two parties said in a joint statement Friday. Hundreds of garbage haulers who sought higher pay and better benefits are set to return to work on Monday for the first time since the end of June.
