Spotify Finally Brings Lossless Audio: Check Availability, Features, Compatible Devices And More

After years of promises, teasers and even hidden code leaks, Spotify has finally flipped the switch on lossless, high-quality music streaming. Premium subscribers can now enjoy their favourite tracks in CD-quality audio, something rivals like Apple Music and Amazon Music have been offering for years. Better late than never, right? Here is everything you need to know. What Does Lossless Audio Mean? Spotify confirmed that users can now stream in up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz FLAC quality, delivering songs in their uncompressed form, just as they were recorded. For music lovers and audiophiles, this means crisper details, fuller sound, and none of the compromises of traditional compressed streaming. Device Support Spotify says lossless playback works across mobile, desktop, and tablet, as well as many devices that support Spotify Connect, including popular brands like Sony, Bose, Samsung, and Sennheiser. Support for Sonos and Amazon devices will be added next month. There are a few things to note, though. The setting must be enabled separately on each device, and since FLAC files are larger, data usage will increase. Plus, Bluetooth still can’t deliver true lossless quality due to bandwidth limitations. To really hear the difference, Spotify suggests using Spotify Connect to stream directly to supported speakers or sound systems. If you’re eligible, you’ll receive a notification in the app. From there, simply head to Settings and Privacy > Media Quality and choose “Lossless” for Wi-Fi, mobile data, and downloads. It is expected that in the following couple of weeks, Indian Premium subscribers will be able to use the function.
