WWE’s Becky Lynch quickly became one of the top professional wrestling stars due to her rise as part of the Four Horsewomen in NXT. Along with Charlotte Flair, Bayley, and Sasha Banks, the four women brought a revolution to the main roster and never looked back. She has achieved multiple championships, including the Raw and SmackDown Women’s Championships, as well as the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship, which she currently holds.Next, she will get in the ring with AJ Lee, someone she’s yet to battle with in her career. However, it’s part of a mixed gender tag team match that also features Becky’s husband, Seth Rollins, and AJ’s husband, CM Punk. That clash occurs at Saturday’s Wrestlepalooza, and the buildup to the match has included multiple in-ring promos featuring verbal taunts, trash talking, and physical attacks.Read more: WWE Star AJ Lee Reveals Big Reasons She Returned for WrestlepaloozaThe latest happened on this week’s Raw and featured Becky laying out AJ on the mat in front of CM Punk. However, some people may have had some issues with Becky’s recent work. With the Wrestlepalooza match on the way, a former WWE star and company worker assessed Becky’s promos and how she’s coming across as a heel in this storyline.Former WWE writer and creative team member Vince Russo spoke to former professional wrestler Stevie Richards about Becky seeming like a “comedian” when she delivers her heel promos.”Guys, it is black and white. Babyface and a heel. Black and white. This I really don’t understand. Why is Becky Lynch trying to be a comedian? Why is she purposely being so over the top?” Russo asked during Vince Russo’s The Brand. He said the promos are supposed to generate heat for the heels leading into Wrestlepalooza, but instead, she’s trying to make the fans laugh at things she says.Richards mentioned that there’s a term “babyface cockiness,” where certain wrestling stars “always gotta look good and get over.” He said Sami Zayn is an example of someone like that.”Secretly, she still wants to be popular,” Richards said about Becky, adding that some wrestlers “Deep down they’re heels, but they’re also trying to get a pop [and] trying to get cheered.””And by the way, they got merchandise. They’re trying to get people to buy their merch,” he said, calling it a “false positive” for heels. As of 2024, WWE Shop listed two of the women, Liv Morgan and Rhea Ripley, among their top 10 bestselling WWE superstars for merch.AJ Lee’s return generated a pop when she officially arrived on SmackDown earlier this month to help out her husband, CM Punk, by attacking Becky in the ring. That occurred after Becky berated Punk in the ring and continually slapped and hit him.Since then, there have been several promos involving Becky and AJ, with Punk and Rollins also involved. On Monday’s Raw, Becky snuck into the ring to attack AJ after their in-ring exchange, and then slapped Punk in the face as he checked on his wife. However, based on Russo and Richards’ remarks, Becky still isn’t doing enough to get the necessary heat to sell her Wrestlepalooza tag team match. She’ll get in the ring on Saturday as Rollins’ tag team partner to take on AJ and Punk, so now it’s up to her in-ring work to speak for her.Read more: WWE NXT Sets up Huge Championship Match Before No MercyFor more on professional wrestling and WWE, head to Newsweek Sports.
