The Wait For Titanfall 3 Just Got A Whole Lot Easier

The Wait For Titanfall 3 Just Got A Whole Lot Easier

If you’re like me, you’re hopelessly still waiting for Titanfall 3, despite Respawn Entertainment canceling the project. Titanfall 2 set a high bar for mech and pilot hybrid gameplay, with satisfying combat and movement with an incredibly high skill ceiling, yet the franchise has been dormant since 2016. A new game clearly inspired by Titanfall, however, could be exactly what you’re looking for.
Developer and publisher Tetra Studios released a new trailer for its upcoming FPS ShatterRush, which boasts similarly high-flying, mecha-filled gameplay. ShatterRush is in open pre-alpha on Steam, meaning you can play it right now. It features the familiar mech-and-pilot gameplay, wall-running and grappling hook included, but also takes things a step further with destructible environments. ShatterRush is expected to be in this playable, pre-release state for roughly a year, with its tentative release window currently set for Q3 2026.
ShatterRush Is In Open Pre-Alpha Now & Plays A Lot Like Titanfall
Early Access Coming Soon
Even just watching the ShatterRush trailer, the Titanfall parallels are clear. The main avenue of iteration, however, is ShatterRush’s destructible environments. Like the collapsing buildings of Battlefield 6 or The Finals, ShatterRush makes a big show of its mechs dropping out of orbit and crashing through structures. Perhaps even more important, though, is the game’s movement, highlighted best by a map that has no ground – the entire arena is spread across a fleet of ships above the clouds.
The biggest differentiator from Titanfall is ShatterRush’s art style. It’s noticeably more stylized, almost cel-shaded, and is much more minimalist. This may prove to be a huge boon to performance, though, and clearly doesn’t affect gameplay. ShatterRush may be a little rough around the edges in pre-alpha, but is expected to enter a more traditional early access period in March 2026.
Face It, We May Never Get Titanfall 3
Alternatives Need To Emerge
With Respawn Entertainment canceling its Titanfall project, the studio is currently focused on the third Star Wars Jedi entry and is assisting in development of Bit Reactor’s Star Wars: Zero Company. Plans could always change, but at the moment, it sadly appears that Titanfall is on ice indefinitely. One sliver of hope is that Apex Legends, which takes place in the Titanfall universe, is still going strong, and could potentially lead to more related games.
