Houston Texans safety Jimmie Ward will not face any criminal charges in his domestic violence case after a grand jury did not find probable cause.

According to TMZ Sports, Ward – who was accused of threatening to kill his wife in a crystal-meth fueled sexual assault earlier this year – vehemently denied any wrongdoing after being arrested and hit with a bombshell lawsuit.

The 34-year-old was charged with felony domestic violence following the arrest at his home back in June after allegedly choking Cristy West, with whom he was in a relationship for several years.

As well as the pending criminal charge, he also faces a civil suit from West, who is seeking more than $20million in damages.

However, a Montgomery County, Texas court official has reportedly confirmed that no bill was issued on Thursday after the ruling from the jury, meaning Ward will not be charged criminally.

‘Today we presented our grand jury packet and evidence to the grand jury to show that Mr. Ward was factually innocent of the allegations against him,’ his attorney Stephen Jackson is quoted as saying.

‘The district attorney also provided information to the grand jury, that we believe, assisted the grand jury in coming to the conclusion that Mr. Ward should be no billed. We believe not only was he exonerated by the grand jury but that the actions of the grand jury show that Jimmie was factually innocent.’

Ward – who was named as one of the Texans’ captains for the 2024 season – was accused of forcefully entering West’s home at around 4:20am on June 12.

In the suit, she alleged that he was exhibiting ‘erratic and aggressive’ behavior and threatened to ‘f***ing kill’ her multiple times. It was also claimed that he ‘dragged her into a bedroom’, slapped and choked her.

The commotion allegedly woke their son up before West attempted to calm him down. Ward was then accused of demanding that she perform oral sex on him, which she claimed to have done out of fear.

West eventually ran out of her home with her son while ‘naked and visibly injured’. She managed to leave when Ward went looking for her phone, the suit alleged. After she called 911 he was then arrested.

After the jury failed to find probable cause, Jackson continued: ‘We and Jimmie want to thank the National Football League commissioner [Roger] Goodell, the Houston Texans organization and the ownership for their patience in this situation and their belief in Jimmie to let the facts all come out and not rush to judgment. Now Jimmie can resume his role with the Texans and their quest for Super Bowl, and also allows him to get back to the community and how he gives back to the City of Houston.

Ward, 33, played in two Super Bowls with the 49ers – they lost both to the Kansas City Chiefs

‘What happened to Jimmie was wrong. And we truly thank everybody who waited to hear the results before rushing to judgment and taking action.’

Ward has spent most of his career with the San Francisco 49ers, who picked him in the first round of the 2014 Draft. The defensive back played in the 2024 and 2020 Super Bowls that they lost to the Kansas City Chiefs on both occasions.

He joined the Texans in 2023 on a two-year, $10.5m deal that got extended by a year in 2024.

Ward played 10 times for the team last year, recording 48 tackles and two interceptions, but his season ended early with a foot injury that required surgery.
