Following Jimmy Kimmel’s commentary surrounding the Charlie Kirk case, Jimmy Kimmel Live! has been “indefinitely” pulled off the air by ABC after pressure from the Trump-appointed head of the Federal Communications Commission, Brendan Carr.
On Monday night, Jimmy Kimmel criticized MAGA folks for how they were trying to characterize Kirk’s killer “as anything other than one of them, and doing everything they can to score political points from it.”
In response, Carr issued a warning on Wednesday, saying, “We can do this the easy way or the hard way. These companies can find ways to change conduct, to take action, frankly, on Kimmel, or there is going to be additional work for the FCC ahead.” Later that evening, ABC yanked the plug on Jimmy Kimmel Live!
And in true Trump fashion, he took to Truth Social to celebrate the suspension, hinting that Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers were next.

Here’s how people are reacting to the news:
1. “A TV presenter says something ‘mean’ and loses his job. The Attorney General claims to have the Epstein files on her desk, then says they don’t exist, and she’s fine. The Secretary of Defense exposes secrets repeatedly and denies doing so, and he’s fine. There seems to be a pattern here.”
2. “The enemy is both weak and strong. Classic fascist playbook. The Left is simultaneously weak, but somehow also dangerous, violent criminals.”
—Shift642
3. “MAGA sure seems to love cancel culture now.”
—Hellstorm901
4. “Took me less than three minutes to cancel my Disney+ subscription. Just sayin’.”
—blusuedetb
5. “We are watching the institutions that comprise a healthy democracy capitulate one after another; media, universities, law firms, museums, and previously independent corporations are all bending the knee. The reality is that the unrestrained power of the federal government is sufficient to destroy any one of these institutions. ABC responded to threats from the Trump administration’s FCC, suggesting they could lose the ability to broadcast the protected speech of a comedian/commentator on one of their shows. This is a sad day for America.”
6. “He didn’t make comments about Kirk. He made comments about MAGA’s reaction to the shooter.”
—saucisse
7. “I just can’t believe that there are people out there who continue to support this spiral into fascism. It’s absolutely wild to me how people are being brainwashed. What. The. Fuck.”
—JohnnyWeapon
8. “To be clear, it’s not ‘ABC pulls Jimmy Kimmel after comments about Charlie Kirk.’ It’s, ‘ABC pulls Jimmy Kimmel after threats from Trump’s FCC chair.’ The distinction matters here.”
—Havryl
9. “A Fox News host called for the murder of people they felt didn’t have a right to exist, and THAT license isn’t getting pulled by the FCC? And why isn’t this the first or immediate response from literally everyone?”
10. “Not to be dramatic, but I feel like a dark curtain is descending upon us.”
—rini6
11. “If companies keep bending the knee to Trump, they are kicking the can down the road. This behavior has become normalized and will get much worse. If they stand up to him NOW, they have the best chance at stopping him. The pain of standing up to this administration now is less than what will eventually come for them. Trump is boiling frogs, and we are all fucked if he wins.”
—mmm1441
12. “This is some North Korea shit.”
—ba_an
13. “I can’t wait to hear what South Park has to say about all this.”
14. “The selective outrage is the most telling part. They’ll go after a late-night host for a joke but give a free pass to actual government officials for serious misconduct.”
—Maleficent_Cancel_99
15. “So the Constitution at this point is just toilet paper. This is authoritarianism.”
—BlakByPopularDemand
16. “This has nothing to do with Kirk being killed. He was just a convenient way for them to further advance their fascist movement. Charlie being killed, in my opinion, is their excuse to go full Nazi on anyone who doesn’t fall in line. America is cooked.”
—SpicyNuggs4Lyfe
17. “I thought America was all about FREE SPEECH? We literally had Vance lecturing Europe on it. The hypocrisy is beyond the next level; they must think we have the memory span of a goldfish. It is amazing to me how far and how quickly the US has fallen.”

18. “Wild that the ‘facts don’t care about your feelings’ crowd got their feelings hurt by some facts.”
—C__Wayne__G
19. “I don’t believe we should be celebrating the assassination of political figures, and I don’t believe the freedom of speech should be freedom from consequences, but this is the exact censorship Republicans accused the Left and Democrats of doing. This is utter bullshit.”
—Xeropoint
20. “Free speech is DONE; the Bill of Rights has been CIRCUMVENTED.”
—PrimeOneSeven
21. “Hannity says worse than what Kimmel said every single day. I see little difference right now between the Trump administration and the Putin administration. If you don’t kiss the ring, they find a way to eliminate you.”
22. “My thoughts are that there are so many plays from the authoritarian playbook happening right now all at once that people (including myself) feel helpless and scattered.”
—EdithWhartonsFarts
23. “Fucking spineless cowards. The ‘but my freedoms’ crowd sure do like to infringe on other people’s rights.”
—lxlDRACHENlxl
24. “What are people going to do about it? What is the collective response here? I see a lot of ‘wait for the South Park episode.’ That’s funny, but meaningless. We’re just going to accept this and move on, and that makes me irrationally frustrated. Imagine if we all stopped watching Monday Night Football or canceled Disney+. I don’t know what to do, but being resigned to doing nothing is getting old.”
—Emminge1
25. “The right has been caterwauling over ‘freedom of speech’ for decades, acting like people have been trying to silence them. Now that they’re in control, they’ve shut down two late-night shows in Colbert and Kimmel, and they’ll almost certainly go after Fallon next. People are losing their jobs left and right for daring to speak out against the regime. The people who used to imagine ‘cancel culture’ was a thing are now doing everything in their power to ENSURE it’s a thing. Conservatives are a cowardly, hypocritical bunch. Freedom of speech, my ass.”
26. Lastly: “We can stop wondering why the Germans didn’t do anything in the 1930s. We are there now. What are you doing?”
—JohnnyBGC86
