Vivo Energy increases North vs South tournament cash

MARGARET CHISANGA

VIVO Energy Zambia have contributed K1.2 million for next month’s North vs South Golf tournament.
Last year, they splashed K500,000 with Vivo Energy managing director Edward Walugembe bragging “it is bigger, bolder and better.”
Speaking yesterday during the launch of the 2025 Vivo Energy Zambia North vs South Golf tournament at Lusaka Golf Club, Walugembe said sports remains an integral part of Vivo Energy’s corporate social responsibility.
“They unite communities, create opportunities and foster excellence. Golf, in particular, demands discipline, focus and perseverance – values we believe are critical in nation-building,” he said.
Walugembe said this year’s tournament promises to be even more exciting with a clear structure to engage both players and spectators.
He expressed happiness to continue working alongside the Zambia Golf Union (ZGU).
“While the Lusaka Golf Club remains the proud host and organiser of this year’s competition, the union has been with us from the very beginning, offering support, guidance and recognition for our players registered under their banner. Their role has been vital and we value their presence in strengthening this tournament and ensuring it reflects the best standards of Zambian golf,” Walugembe said.
ZGU president Greg Lubesha said the contribution of the energy firm helps to promote the growth of the sport.
“Golf is a game that teaches us valuable lessons about patience, resilience and the importance of sportsmanship,” Lubesha said.
He also said golf courses are the best marketing avenues for the corporate world.
“We shall help you market your products. Golfers are the best buyers and marketers.
Therefore, may the upcoming golf tournament be a celebration of sportsmanship, talent and networking,” Lubesha said.
Organising committee chairperson Willie Kasempa thanked ZGU for according him the opportunity to organise the event for the second year running.
Kasempa also thanked Vivo Energy Zambia for the confidence they have in his committee.
He also thanked sponsors that have come on board.
These are Discover Insurance Company, Ndeke Hotel, EYZ Zambia, KPMG, Stanbic Bank, Standard Chartered Bank and Professional Insurance Corporation of Zambia.
The tournament which will be held over two days commencing on October 17 will feature 20 of the best golfers from each of the two regions…https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/welcome/home
