The Los Angeles Dodgers, the National League’s most historic franchise, remain one of the biggest powerhouses in baseball to this day.
Los Angeles has been able to witness some of the greatest players of all time along with those in Brooklyn prior to the team’s departure.
In the latest sports history book ‘Got Your Legends,’ Mike Greenberg and Paul Hembekides broke down the top four icons from the franchise into a Mt. Rushmore.
Jackie Robinson
Vin Scully
Sandy Koufax
Clayton Kershaw
Vin Scully is one of few broadcasters who made the list for any franchise, but he is synonymous with Dodgers baseball and the perhaps best broadcaster in history. Jackie Robinson’s and Sandy Koufax’s contributions make both of them a guarantee to be on the list as well.
“Sandy Koufax overlapped with Robinson for the first two of the pitcher’s twelve seasons with the Dodgers,” wrote Greenberg. “Koufax won the Major League Triple Crown three times, leading the Dodgers to a pennant run in each of those years. He was the first pitcher to throw four no-hitters, including a perfect game in 1965, and was named MVP of the World Series race.”
In the more recent teams, Clayton Kershaw is the only player to make the list. However, one of the team’s biggest players currently, Shohei Ohtani, did not make the cut.
“Ohtani, still, to this point, is better known for his time with the Angels than the Dodgers,” said Greenberg. “He probably would have to be there close to a decade before I think he would even merit consideration. … When you close your eyes and just say the team’s name, who do you think of? And right now, there are a lot of people who would answer that question, Shohei Ohtani.”
