No Woman Officer Available, Rape Survivor Travels 300 Km To File FIR After Alleged Assault

A 25-year-old woman was allegedly raped near the washroom at Singrauli railway station by a 22-year-old local while her husband had briefly stepped away past midnight on Saturday, reported the Times of India.
The accused, identified as Devlal Saket, was arrested and produced in court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
According to The Times of India, the survivor was forced to travel about 300 km to Katni to lodge an FIR because no woman officer was available at the Singrauli GRP.
With no woman officer present at Katni either, GRP Jabalpur station in-charge Sanjeevani Rajput rushed to Katni on Sunday morning to record her statement and register the case.
Police said the couple, who work in Uttar Pradesh’s Sonbhadra district, often return to their native village in Sidhi on weekends and had reached Singrauli around midnight on September 6 to catch a connecting train.
While the husband stepped away briefly, the accused allegedly caught the woman near the washroom, assaulted her, and even revealed his name, claiming no one could harm him. The investigation is underway.
