Gerald, who made his first senior City’s appearance in the club’s Australia Cup round-of-32 2-0 loss to APIA Leichhardt, has signed a three-year professional contract with an option to extend the deal by two further seasons.
“What Akeem has achieved at just 15-years-old is remarkable and speaks volumes about both his talent and his dedication to improving,” City director of football Michael Petrillo said.
“He’s an exciting winger with tremendous potential, and now with the support of a professional environment around him, we believe he can continue to progress quickly.
“We’re excited to watch him take the next steps in his football journey here at City.”
Gerald became the youngest goalscorer in City’s youth team history earlier this year when he found the net in just his second VPL1 appearance.
“Signing my first professional contract is a dream come true and a really proud moment for me and my family,” Gerald said.
“I’m so grateful to everyone at the club who has supported me on and off the pitch and helped me get to this point.
“I’ve already learnt so much in the academy, but I know the hard work is only just beginning. I’m ready for the challenge and can’t wait to keep improving.”
Meanwhile, former Western United midfielder Rhys Bozinovski has signed a two-year deal with Perth Glory.
The Australian under-23 international, who became a free agent after the financially embattled United was excluded from the upcoming A-League season, said it was a “no-brainer” to join the Glory.
“I see the club’s vision and ambition and what they’re headed towards, and I want to be a part of the success,” Bozinovski said.
Elsewhere, Macarthur FC was beaten 2-1 by Hong Kong club Tai Po in its opening match of the club’s AFC Champions League 2 campaign.
Macarthur coach Mile Sterjovski said Thursday night’s game at Mong Kok Stadium was a “learning curve” for the Bulls, who were reduced to 10 men when defender Callum Talbot was sent off in first-half stoppage time for a professional foul.
“I’m proud of the boys for not putting their heads down,” Sterjovski said.
