Use of science and tech is complementary to growth of agriculture: Minister

Minister for Minor Irrigation and Science and Technology N.S. Boseraju has said the experiments in science and technology have been accelerating all over the world, and the use of science and technology is complementary to the growth of agriculture.

He was speaking after inaugurating the second day of the 6th Science and Technology in Kannada conference, which was organised by the Karnataka Science and Technology Academy and University of Agriculture Science (UAS) in Raichur at Basaveshwar convention hall on the UAS campus on Friday.

Karnataka State Science and Technology Academy is working for the people by organising various programmes to properly educate the people about science and technology. The sixth conference organised in Kannada here is especially exemplary, Mr. Boseraju said.

Farmers in the irrigation network area should implement newly researched science and technology methods in their existing agriculture, as the State government plans to increase the irrigation areas. Presently, six lakh acres of land were irrigated from Tungabhadra dam water, he said.

MP G. Kumar Naik opined that agricultural science has become a prominent subject for research. The present conferences can help farmers to get the benefits from the government, as the Union government has announced its supportive price for green and red chilli.

Mr. Naik expressed happiness to organise the conference in the Kannada language, which can easily be understood by the farmers. The role of the agriculture scientists and also students studying in agriculture courses to uplift the social and educational status, along with agriculture, is immense, he added. Mr. Naik unveiled the cover of the commemorative issues.

A.G. Srinivas, head of the Department of Entomology at UAS and coordinator of the conference, said the academy has been actively working for a period of two decades to create awareness about science and technology.

President of the Karnataka Science and Technology Academy Rajasab A.H.; member of the Management Board D. Mallikarjuna; Thimmanna Somappa Chavadi; Registrar and member secretary of the Management Board Sharanabasappa Kotappagol; Dean K. Narayana Rao; retired Vice-Chancellor M.K.
