It will probably come as no great surprise to discover that the British Netflix drama Adolescence was one of two big winners at this year’s National Television Awards.
During Wednesday night’s NTAs, Adolescence came away with two awards, including Best New Drama and Best Drama Performance for its teen star Owen Cooper.
The 15-year-old – who is currently gearing up for the Emmys this weekend – was unable to attend the NTAs in person, so his co-star Amari Bacchus accepted the award on his behalf, playing Owen’s acceptance speech on his phone.
EastEnders also came away with two awards, triumphing in Best Serial Drama while long-running cast member Steve McFadden was awarded for his performance as Phil Mitchell.
Meanwhile, the other big story of the night was Gary Lineker breaking Ant and Dec’s 23-year winning streak to be voted the winner of the Best Presenter category.
It wasn’t all bad news for the Geordie duo, though, as their show I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! triumphed in the Best Reality Competition category.
