The MP for the Pru East Constituency in the Bono East Region, Emmanuel Kwaku Boam, yesterday organised a meeting with the press to account to his constituents.
In his address on Tuesday, 9th September, Lord Boam said, as part of his mandate to ensure Pru East is safe, security agencies have been engaged to discuss relevant security measures and support to enhance safety and security in the constituency.
He told Kaakyire Kwasi Afari of Sunyani-based Ark FM that the measures include community policing recruitment from the constituency, which is set to commence.
Boam said the Pru East market has been struggling for revival due to armed robbery activities for over 27 years, with the lives and business capital of businessmen and women being lost to deadly robbery attacks.
To address these attacks, he said he has openly posed a question to the Minister of Interior on the floor of Parliament regarding sustainable solutions to this social menace.
He said following his request, the minister has allocated 50 specially trained anti-robbery squad personnel to mount 24-hour operations on the highway through both patrols and barrier erections to curb the situation.
Emmanuel Kwaku Boam commended the MCE for his relentless efforts in beefing up security in Pru East.
Emmanuel Kwaku Boam said that as part of his Light Up initiative, with the support from the energy ministry, over 200 streetlights and 5,000 energy-efficient bulbs have been acquired for installation in vantage areas.
According to him, this initiative will enhance visibility during evening hours and reduce crime opportunities.
Lord Boam told the media that he has formally written to the Minister of Energy to request the extension of electricity supply to about 26 affected communities across the district, covering both land and overbank areas.
