Real Oviedo midfielder Kwasi Sibo has set his sights on establishing himself in the Black Stars following a promising debut in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The 27-year-old former Cheetah FC midfielder earned a late call-up for Ghana’s Matchday 8 clash against Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium for the September World Cup qualifiers and delivered a composed performance that drew plaudits from both the technical team and supporters nationwide.
Reflecting on the milestone, Sibo expressed determination to build on the opportunity:
“Getting a starting role in such a crucial match means the coach has confidence in me, but I have to work even harder to fight for a place in the team,” he told Graphic Sports.
The midfielder admitted that consistent game time at club level will be crucial to cementing his international place:
“If I don’t get regular playing time at Oviedo, I’ll not catch the eye of the coach. So my focus is to keep working hard, for my club and for Ghana.”
The enterprising midfielder has so far featured in all three opening La Liga games for Real Oviedo right before the international window and is expected to play a pivotal role in helping them cement and retain their spot in the top flight after assisting the team essentially back to top flight status after 24 years.
With the Black Stars sitting atop of Group I of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers on 19 points, Sibo will be hoping to feature again in October when Ghana face the Central African Republic and Comoros in their final qualifiers as they chase a fifth FIFA World Cup appearance.
