EPA exempts Moblissa sand and loam mining project from environmental impact assessment

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced that the proposed Moblissa Quarry Sand and Loam Mining Project, to be undertaken by Trident Marine Trading Inc., will not require an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).

In a notice published last week, the EPA said that following a review of the application submitted by developer Remaliah Bhaskaran, the project was deemed unlikely to significantly affect the environment. The operation is set to take place at the confluence of the Hubudebu River and Labba Creek, located on the Left Bank of the Demerara River in Region Four.

The EPA outlined several reasons for its decision, noting that the impacts expected are of medium to low significance. Noise levels from operations are projected to be periodic and confined to the production site, with workers required to wear protective gear.
