Gardaà have charged two men after more than 40 kilos of cannabis was uncovered following a ‘coordinated operation’ in Dublin.
As part of ongoing investigations targeting organised criminal activity under Operation Tara, officers attached to the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau intercepted two vehicles in the Knocklyon area of Dublin and conducted searches at two homes and one business premises.
These actions resulted in the seizure of approximately 40.5 kilograms of cannabis with an estimated street value of €810,000 (analysis pending) along with €13,000 in cash, mobile phones and other items associated with drug distribution.
Two males, aged in their 30s, were arrested as part of the investigation and detained at Garda stations in Dublin under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.
Both have since been charged and are due to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice at this evening’s sitting, Wednesday, September 17.
A spokesperson for Gardaà said that investigations remain ongoing.
This seizure forms part of Operation Tara; an enhanced national anti-drugs strategy, which was launched by former Garda Commissioner Drew Harris in July 2021.
The focus of Operation Tara is to disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks, at all levels – international, national, local – involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, local sale and supply of controlled drugs.
Under Operation Tara, individuals and groups involved in the drug trade will be the target of enforcement activity based on intelligence and the latest crime trends.
