Mangaluru: Young author and speaker Reshel Bretny Fernandes from Mangaluru has been conferred the prestigious J. Maurus Award for her remarkable contribution to literature through her book Bharat @ 2047: Role of Youth. Published by Taneesha Publishers, the book reflects her vision of the youth as a driving force in shaping India’s future and promoting human and social values.
Bharat @ 2047 is a thought-provoking exploration of how Bharat’s young generation can lead the country towards Viksit Bharat by 2047. Reshel’s work stands out as the first literary effort from a young author to deeply engage with the aspirations and responsibilities of the youth. Through the pages of the book, she draws wisdom from great leaders such as Sardar Patel, Aurobindo Ghosh, Dattopant Thengadi, and Swami Vivekananda, offering a roadmap to inspire courage, innovation, and resilience among young readers.
The book covers a wide range of themes, including culture, sustainable development, science, manufacturing, social justice, and leadership, addressing challenges and opportunities that the youth must confront. Reshel’s writing encourages creative thinking and perseverance, urging young people to participate actively in nation-building while upholding ethical and inclusive practices.
The J. Maurus Award, instituted by the Society of St. Paul in collaboration with the Indian Catholic Press Association (ICPA), commemorates the legacy of Fr. J. Maurus, an Italian missionary and prolific author whose works emphasised spiritual wisdom, social justice, and human values. The award recognises outstanding literary contributions that serve the broader interests of society.
Reshel’s passion for writing began early, and her achievements speak volumes. Besides Bharat @ 2047, she has authored three other books: The Environment Bond of Coexistence, Light of Education Brightens World, and Essays on Collective Topics. With over 150 achievements and recognition from dignitaries including the President and Prime Minister of India, she continues to be a guiding voice for young readers. Currently pursuing her LL.B. at SDM Law College, Mangaluru, she remains deeply committed to using literature as a tool for social change.
The award will be formally conferred on Reshel during the 30th National Convention of Christian Journalists, organised by the ICPA, at Pune on 20 September 2025. Her recognition stands as an inspiration to aspiring writers and young leaders across India, reinforcing the message that visionary thinking and moral conviction can transform society.
