A day after Urvashi Rautela was issued a summons by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection to the betting app case, it has now been reported that the Bollywood actress has not yet informed the agency if she will be arriving for questioning or not. Reportedly, Urvashi has not contacted the agency regarding her willingness to join the investigation.
Urvashi Rautela was supposed to appear before the ED on September 16. If she skips the summons this time too, it will be the second time that the actress will not be appearing for questioning in the case. ED had summoned Urvashi in March this year as well. Back then, too, the actress did not join the investigation.
Other Celebrities Involved In Betting App Case
In March this year, an FIR was filed in Hyderabad against 25 celebrities, including Vijay Deverakonda, Rana Daggubati, Prakash Raj, Manchu Lakshmi, Praneetha, and Nidhi Agarwal, among others for allegedly promoting illegal betting apps. “Thousands of lakhs of rupees are involved in these illegal platforms and it is also leading many families into distress, especially that of middle-class and lower middle-class,” a part of the complaint read.
The ED’s probe includes 29 individuals, such as actors and social media influencers, suspected of endorsing illegal betting apps on digital platforms. The agency is investigating the financial transactions and online trails tied to these endorsements to uncover the extent of the operation.
Later, Prakash Raj admitted that even though he appeared in one such ad in 2015, he had opted out of it within a year. On the other hand, Rana Daggubati’s team had also issued a clarification that his endorsement deal was compliant with the law.
Kangana Ranaut Slams Celebs Endorsing Betting Apps
Earlier this year, Kangana Ranaut slammed the celebrities for promoting betting apps. The actress, known for her controversial remarks, took to her Instagram stories and wrote, “This endorsement came to me almost 6 times over a span of one year, every time they added several crores to the offer to buy me but I said NO each time, look anymore, yeh integrity is not good just for your conscience anymore, yeh naya Baharat hai, sudhar jao nahi toh sudhar diye jaoge (sic).” She also added a laugh emoji and an Indian Flag emoji.
