Two killed in separate motorcycle accidents in Bengaluru

Two young men lost their lives in separate motorcycle accidents in the city’s outskirts during the early hours of Thursday, police said.

26-year-old dies after crashing into lake gate

In the first incident, 26-year-old Ranjith, an employee of a private firm, was killed in a freak accident after his motorcycle rammed into the Chikkabasti lake gate and plunged into the water.

Police said the accident occurred while Ranjith was returning home after completing his late-night shift. Passersby immediately alerted the authorities, following which the Jnanabharati traffic police rushed to the spot. His body was recovered from the lake and sent for postmortem examination.

Investigators suspect Ranjith may have lost control of his bike before the crash. “We are awaiting the postmortem report to rule out foul play,” police officials said.

Security guard killed in separate crash

In a separate incident reported from Chikkajala police station limits, 29-year-old security guard Surya Kumar died after sustaining severe head injuries in a motorcycle accident.

According to police, Kumar slipped off his two-wheeler while returning home from work in the early hours of Thursday. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene. A case of death due to negligence has been registered, and further investigation is under way.

Road safety concerns

The twin tragedies have once again raised concerns over road safety in Bengaluru, particularly for night-shift workers who often travel during low-visibility hours. Police have urged motorists to exercise caution, wear helmets, and avoid speeding, especially on poorly lit stretches.
