Boys Town pitched a second-half shutout and made three big plays offensively to knock Lincoln Lutheran from the ranks of the unbeaten with a 22-10 win Thursday night at Aldrich Field.
The Cowboys (2-2) held Lutheran to 95 yards in the second half, and capped things off with a sack of Warriors quarterback Henry Prokop for a safety in the final minute.
Class C-2 No. 7-ranked Lutheran (3-1) scored all its points on its first two drives.
Boys Town’s touchdowns came on a 22-yard by running back Jalyn Conner in the first quarter; a 43-yard scramble by quarterback Shawn Lewis with two minutes left in the second quarter; and a 6-yard run from Khyren Wilson in the third quarter that was set up by Jayden Cook’s 39-yard run on which he escaped a tackle in the backfield and reversed back across the field to set the Cowboys up on the Lutheran 11-yard line.
Boys Town overcame 10 first-half penalties for 80 yards, including four on Lutheran’s lone scoring drive.
The Warriors scored their only touchdown on a 7-yard run from Preston Rodencal that capped a 16-play, 86-yard drive. Lutheran had a 15-play drive in the second half that ended with an interception in the end zone.
