WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. – Residents gathered at Wayne County Community College to provide public comments on the Wayne Disposal facility.
It comes after the landfill requested an expansion.
The EPA and EGLE are already signaling on Thursday (Sept. 18) that they intend to issue the license.
But before they give the green light, they want to hear from the community.
EGLE Senior Environmental Engineer Christine Matlock said, “Our mission is to protect our environment, and we take that very seriously. We want to ensure that our engineering controls are operating and that its designed and constructed according to the laws and that people aren’t being exposed to anything.”
The public comment period is open until Oct. 31.
Before the meeting on Thursday, protesters gathered outside with signs and concerns.
