The community at Parrs Wood Sixth Form College is celebrating after receiving a superb set of results in this summer’s exams.
The college, which is connected to Parrs Wood High School in East Didsbury, is built on its core values of community, creativity and achievement and has an annual intake of 200 students, who can each choose from more than 30 courses, 27 of them at A level.
The overall pass rate in level 3 qualifications – which includes A levels and BTEC courses – was 96.4%, while for BTEC Level 3 qualifications only the pass rate was 97%, with an average grade of Merit+.
There was a strong performance in languages – a major focus for the college – where more than 20% of students achieved A grade or A* equivalent: 100% in A level French, 67% in A level German, and 50% in A level Spanish.
Meanwhile in biology, Parrs Wood achieved almost a grade higher than students nationally.
Among students following the Level 3 BTEC Business (Diploma), 100% achieved at least a Merit, which is equivalent to two B grades at A level.
Overall, 60% of students on the advanced level pathway were awarded a B, A or A*.
Such fantastic results have set Parrs Wood students on the course to an exciting time at university. Five have gone on to Oxford or Cambridge, and there are seven students now embarking on a degree in medicine.
