No estimate figure for Crown Square fitout yet published, says City Council

Galway City Council has not published or stated any estimate for the fit out of its new headquarters at Crown Square, according to a Council spokesperson.

In response to an article in last week’s Advertiser, they said that a figure of ‘up to €45 million’ is not a figure published or proposed by Galway City Council for the fitout, and is not based on any Galway City Council records, adding that the figure was inaccurate and misleading.

“Galway City Council has not published or stated an estimate for the fit out, as this is commercially sensitive information with potential to negatively impact a tender process.

“This figure will not be established until the tender for fit out is complete.

“The figure of ‘potentially up to €45 million’ to fit out Crown Square has no source, no reference, and is not based on any Galway City Council records or tender,” said the spokesperson.

“Per the Galway City Council press release published in July 2025, the full list of projects scheduled for investment and enabling works through the €60 million loan are across all Departments of Galway City Council, and all areas of the city.

Many have commenced and are in design/planning stages. They include:

Masterplans at Kingston, South Park and Renmore (land acquisition and enabling works );

Woodquay Park redevelopment;

Pitches at Millers Lane;

New MUGA at Renmore;

Delivery of other sports capital projects such as pitch drainage and skate park in Doughiska;
