Jonathan Kuminga Wants to Leave Warriors, Play For West Rival: Report

The Golden State Warriors and forward Jonathan Kuminga are still in the midst of ongoing contract negotiations.More news: Lakers Receive Massive Update on Austin Reaves’ FutureThe two sides have yet to come to an agreement, as Kuminga remains a restricted free agent. When this ongoing battle will end remains a mystery, but it appears that Kuminga wants a fresh, new start in the process.According to Ashish Mathur of Dallas Hoops Journal, Kuminga is interested in playing for the Sacramento Kings and has no interest in playing for the Warriors.”Kuminga, a restricted free agent, has ‘zero interest’ in playing for the Golden State Warriors ever again, sources said,” wrote Mathur.More news: Warriors Receive Unfortunate Jonathan Kuminga MessageThis isn’t the first time the Kings and Kuminga have been linked. Sacramento has made a push for Kuminga this offseason, as they have offered guard Malik Monk and a protected 2030 first-round pick in a sign-and-trade for the former lottery pick. However, things never transpired in that sense as Golden State declined the offer. As things stand, the 22-year-old and his agent are firm on their stance. They presented the Warriors with a three-year, $63 million contract with a player option in the third year. However, the Warriors did not budge and offered him a three-year, $75.2 million contract, but this one was with a team option. Kuminga and his team turned it down. The two sides remain at a standstill, and with the Oct. 1 deadline for a restricted fee agent to accept a one-year qualifying offer from their team looming, time is ticking. The Kuminga situation remains one of the more prominent heading into the deadline. Kuminga could accept the Wariros’ one-year qualifying offer to become an unrestricted free agent in 2026. It has also been rumored that the Warriors could deal him in a sign-and-trade scenario, however, they don’t appear inclined to do that. How Jonathan Kuminga Could Fit With The KingsA trade between the two sides seems unlikely; however, Kuminga could thrive in Sacramento. He would certainly bring scoring punch off the bench for the Kings, who have stars like Zach LaVine and DeMar DeRozan starting for them. Outside of those two, the Kings lack scoring.Kuminga would add physical and athletic play. He also excels at attacking the basket, is effective cutting to the rim, and is able to push the ball in fastbreak situations. On top of that, the 22-year-old is an excellent on-ball defender for a team that lacks perimeter defense. There is a ton of tension between the Warriors and Kuminga. While all signs point to the two sides eventually agreeing on a deal, their future beyond this season remains uncertain.More news: NBA Insider Provides Massive Al Horford Free Agency UpdateFor all the latest NBA news and rumors, head over to Newsweek Sports.
