Pakistan Backs Saudi Ties at Arab-Islamic Summit

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on Monday on the sidelines of the emergency Arab–Islamic Summit in Doha, pledging Pakistan’s full diplomatic support following Israel’s strike on Qatar earlier this month.

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir joined the meeting, described by both sides as warm and cordial. Sharif condemned Israel’s air strikes on Doha as a “deliberate attempt to derail Middle East peace efforts” and assured the Saudi leader that Pakistan would actively back coordinated moves at the UN Security Council, the OIC, and other multilateral platforms.

Sharif praised Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s “bold and sagacious leadership” in unifying the Muslim world at a critical time, stressing that the Doha summit sent a powerful message of unity against Israeli aggression that threatens regional peace and security. He also reaffirmed Pakistan’s historic fraternal ties with Saudi Arabia and thanked the Kingdom for its consistent support.

The Crown Prince, for his part, appreciated Pakistan’s active diplomatic role in expressing solidarity with Qatar and said he looked forward to Sharif’s upcoming state visit to Riyadh for comprehensive talks on bilateral, regional, and global issues.

According to a draft resolution seen by Reuters, Arab and Islamic leaders in Doha are set to warn that Israel’s attack on Qatar and its ongoing “hostile acts”, including siege, settlement expansion, and ethnic cleansing, threaten coexistence and undermine normalisation efforts in the region.
