Man Utd news: Ruben Amorim's 'stupid' approach 'frustrating and confusing' players

Manchester United’s woeful form has persisted this season with the latest humiliation a derby day thrashing by Manchester City . Ruben Amorim has been warned that both he and several of his squad are simply not up to standard as questions emerge over Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s disastrous reign in charge at the fallen giants. Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City demolished their neighbours 3-0 on Sunday courtesy of a Phil Foden header and a brace from Erling Haaland. The Red Devils have managed just one victory this campaign and languish in 14th place in the Premier League as the heat intensifies on manager Amorim whose approach is being scrutinised by players and pundits. Following the defeat, United icon Gary Neville targeted one player specifically. Remarks made by Jose Mourinho during the summer also proved prophetic after Amorim’s post-match confessions. Here’s all the latest news from Old Trafford. During United’s capitulation, Uruguayan midfielder Manuel Ugarte failed to leave his mark and was withdrawn after 80 minutes with his team’s destiny already decided. The 24-year-old joined from PSG last summer for a fee potentially reaching £50million including bonuses, reports the Mirror . Following the reverse, Neville criticised United’s midfield options and insisted that Ugarte, specifically, lacks the quality required for the club despite his substantial price tag. “The midfield is a massive problem, and we’ve known that. United fans know that,” declared the former Red Devils right-back on his Gary Neville Podcast. Neville said: “”Ugarte and Fernandes today, I think you mentioned it early, about an hour before the game, that Ugarte and Fernandes played in this fixture last year from start to finish, and United won the game, but Ugarte is not good enough.” During his post-match press conference, Amorim was quite defiant when questioned about why he hasn’t modified his tactical approach despite the club’s clearly disappointing results. Remarks made by former United boss Mourinho earlier this summer have now re-emerged, with the Portuguese tactician slamming any other head coach who refuses to adapt. “There are coaches who try things that don’t work and fail, but they say, ‘I died with my idea.’ If you die with your idea, you’re stupid. Coaches have to adapt their ideas to what they have,” said Mourinho. However, Amorim’s press conference showed he is not one to change. He said: “I won’t change my philosophy. If they [the United hierarchy] want it changed, you change the man. I am not going to change my philosophy. I will play my way until I want to change. “Guys, I understand [the questions] and I accept it is not a record you should have at Man United. But there are a lot of things that you have no idea about what happen in the last months.” Ruben Amorim is losing the confidence of his dressing room, Daily Star Sport exclusively revealed yesterday. It’s understood senior players have been left frustrated and confused by Amorim’s refusal to change his tactics. Amorim’s approach to games and chosen style of play has become the hot topic of debate within the squad. And some players believe the Portuguese is hanging them out to dry, by continually asking them to fit into a system they are not able to adapt to. United denied the squad had lost confidence in Amorim and claimed he still had the backing of the players. Read more on that story here .
