Prathidhwani, the welfare organisation of IT employees in Kerala, has condemned the alleged mass terminations at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). In a statement issued on Wednesday, the organisation said that the manner in which employees are being treated is nothing short of inhumane. Forcing employees to resign within minutes over phone calls, coupled with rude and threatening language from HR officials, is a blatant violation of employee dignity and fundamental rights.
The welfare organisation has already submitted representations to both the State and Union government authorities, Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Kerala Labour Minister V.Sivankutty and the Labour commissioner urging them to intervene without delay and hold companies accountable for unjust practices.
Warning against the normalising of “pink slip culture”, Prathidhwani said that employees are not disposable commodities. They are the backbone of the IT industry and the driving force behind its global success. Companies like TCS, built on the relentless hard work of lakhs of employees, carry a moral and social responsibility to support, reskill, and upskill their workforce instead of abandoning them in the name of “business needs.”
“What makes the situation even more alarming is the absence of clear criteria or transparent guidelines for these terminations. Instead of a structured approach, it appears to be an arbitrary exercise aimed at meeting headcount reduction targets, leaving employees helpless and uncertain about their futures. TCS and all IT companies should immediately put an end to this practice and adopt a humane, people-first approach. Respect, training, and job security must be the foundation of any responsible organization—not fear, intimidation, and forced resignations,” said the statement.
