EXCLUSIVE: Darius Fraser (Plainclothes) has been tapped for a recurring role opposite Jude Law and Andrew Garfield in Wild Things, Apple TV+‘s limited series on Vegas showman-magicians Siegfried and Roy.
Fraser plays Toney Mitchell, an aspiring dancer who, while on the Las Vegas strip, worked his way into Siegfried & Roy’s show and inner circle. Siegfried, Roy, and audiences were dazzled by him — a captivating performer with an ambiguous and oft-changing backstory. A lover at various times to both of the performers, he’s more than a talisman of petty jealousy. Toney is a beacon of self-assurance and statue admired by Siegfried & Roy until his timely passing.
The news follows word within the last hour that Justin Theroux has boarded in the role of Steve Wynn, the real estate mogul who has had his hand in the development of a number of Vegas’ most iconic hotels.
Hailing from writer, showrunner and executive producer John Hoffman, who’s known for co-creating and showrunning Only Murders in the Building, Wild Things tells the wild-ride relationship tale of two of the greatest showman-magicians in history who, along with their white tigers, are tasked with turning Sin City into a family-friendly destination. The duo pushes the concept of illusion versus reality to the extreme, personally and professionally, until tragedy reframes and opens a mystery surrounding their last fateful Las Vegas show.
The eight-episode, hour-long series adapts the Apple original podcast Wild Things: Siegfried & Roy. Matt Shakman (Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, WandaVision) is set to direct the pilot and exec produce alongside Hoffman, who will also direct. Brian Grazer, Kristen Zolner, and Natalie Berkus will exec produce for Imagine Entertainment, alongside Law and Garfield, as well as Tony Leondis, Kathy Ciric, and Will Malnati, who conceived the At Will Media podcast on which the show is based. Steven Leckart, who wrote, narrated, and exec produced the podcast, is another EP.
Tomorrow, Fraser can be seen starring alongside Russell Tovey and Tom Blyth in Plainclothes, Carmen Emmi’s queer drama which premiered to critical acclaim at Sundance, winning a U.S. Dramatic Special Jury Award recognizing its ensemble. The film will be released in theaters by Magnolia Pictures. Fraser’s previous film credits include Only the Good Survive, which premiered at SXSW, and the upcoming Tracers. In television, he can be seen in Peacock’s Poker Face opposite Judith Light and Natasha Lyonne, Netflix’s The Chair and Archive 81, and Evil and The Good Fight on Paramount+. A graduate of the Carnegie Mellon University School of Drama, he is represented by Gersh and Artists First.
