The Kamabiri singsing group from Mendi Urban have officially opened the Independence Celebrations in Mendi at the Momei Oval, marking the beginning of an exciting celebration today.

With a total of nearly 20 singsing groups set to perform, people from across Southern Highlands have gathered in Mendi to join in the festivities.

With various activities such as the Greasy Poles Competition, Tug of Wars (Rope Pulling) Showcasing Talents, Crafts and Artifacts.

The aim of the celebration todays is to bring the people together to celebrate the milestone of the country and also the rich cultural heritage of Southern Highlands.

The celebration will also feature local artists from the province like Augustine Emile, Estapacifika, AB Nane and other artists from Southern Highlands.

The event is attended by William Powi, Governor of Southern Highlands Province, and the local member for Mendi-Munihu, Hon. Raphael Tonpi, along with long-serving retired public service staff.

The celebration is an initiative of the Southern Highlands Provincial Government, which is set to continue tomorrow with even more exciting activities.
