Sanitary committee warns of infection risk in Uzbekistan - Qalampir.uz

Amid the sharp seasonal surge of acute respiratory infections (ARIs) in the Russian Federation and neighboring countries, there is a risk of the disease being imported into Uzbekistan and spreading through air travel, labor migration, and business trips. This was reported by the Sanitary and Epidemiological Committee.

It was stated that the epidemiological situation regarding acute respiratory infections in Uzbekistan is under constant monitoring. Virological studies are being carried out to identify the circulation of influenza and ARI viruses.

’’The 15 virology laboratories under the Sanitary and Epidemiological Committee are conducting diagnostics of influenza and influenza-like illnesses. The incidence rate of ARIs remains 36.5 percent below the epidemic threshold (the multi-year average),’’ the report stated.

It was noted that age-based analysis of morbidity rates shows the highest incidence among children aged 0–1. At present, the epidemiological situation regarding influenza and ARIs in the country remains stable and is under the supervision of the Sanitary and Epidemiological Committee.

Acute respiratory diseases are a general term for acute infectious illnesses of viral origin with similar causes. They affect the mucous membranes of the respiratory tract (nose, pharynx, larynx, bronchi) as well as the conjunctiva of the eyes. The causative agents include adenoviruses, parainfluenza viruses, rhinoviruses, and others. Acute respiratory diseases are often observed in sporadic cases, but in some instances, they can spread to entire groups of the population.
