Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters added another accolade to its massive summertime run.
In the same week that it the biggest movie to date in Netflix’s internal rankings, the animated hit notched its 10th straight week on Nielsen’s top 10 streaming movie charts. That’s a record for for an original streaming film in the five years Nielsen has been breaking down its streaming charts between series (original and acquired) and movies.
KPop Demon Hunters, which had 930 million minutes of watch time in its 10th week (Aug. 18-24), tops the previous record of nine weeks in the Nielsen top 10 for The Mitchells vs. the Machines in 2021. The movie finished second overall for the week behind Wednesday (1.13 billion minutes), which topped the charts for the third straight week.
Prime Video’s The Summer I Turned Pretty moved into second place among original series with 654 million viewing minutes, up a little from the previous week. It finished ahead of Netflix’s sports docuseries America’s Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys (571 million). Also debuting on the original series chart was Netflix’s British thriller Hostage (482 million minutes).
Sullivan’s Crossing (888 million viewing minutes) led the acquired series chart, and former CBS drama Extant (742 million minutes) made its chart debut after being added to Netflix (it also streams on Paramount+).
