Republican Andrew Koenig to run for St. Louis County Council

ST. LOUIS COUNTY — Republican former state Sen. Andrew Koenig announced Thursday he plans to run for County Council.
Koenig, of Manchester, said in a news release that he has been a champion for taxpayers and families and has a track record of “cutting taxes, fighting government waste and defending Missouri families.”
He decided to run for council District 3, which includes Fenton and Town and Country, because he wants to make St. Louis County a better place for his family and others, according to the release.
“We want to make sure our kids, and yours, have the opportunity to live, work and raise their families in safe, thriving neighborhoods with accountable leadership,” Koenig said.
Prior to serving in the Missouri Senate, Koenig served in the House. He ran unsuccessfully for state treasurer last year.
Democrat Mark Osmack of Des Peres is also running for council District 3.
The district’s current councilman, Republican Dennis Hancock of Fenton, plans to run for county executive in next year’s election.
The primary election is Aug. 4.
