Telangana seeks 98.20 acres of defence land for Gandhi Sarovar Project in Hyderabad

A year after seeking large chunks of land for development work, the Telangana government has again formally requested the Ministry of Defence to transfer 98.20 acres of defence land in Hyderabad for the development of the ambitious Gandhi Sarovar project at the confluence of the Musi and Esa rivers.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy met Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh at his official residence in New Delhi last night to press the request. During the meeting, the Chief Minister explained the significance of the Gandhi Sarovar project, which is envisioned as a symbol of national unity and a tribute to Gandhian ideals.

The project, to be developed near the historic confluence of the rivers, includes the proposed “Gandhi Circle of Unity,” a Knowledge Hub, Meditation Village, Handloom Promotion Centre, Entertainment Hub, landscaped areas, ghats and a Peace Statue Museum.

Revanth Reddy emphasised that the project cannot move forward without the transfer of the defence land and urged the Defence Minister to facilitate the allotment at the earliest.

The meeting was also attended by MPs Porika Balaram Nayak, Kadiyam Kavya, Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy, Musi River Development Corporation Managing Director E V Narasimha Reddy and Central Projects and Schemes Coordinator Dr Gaurav Uppal.
