CT woman charged with DUI with child sleeping in backseat of car

A woman was arrested on DUI and child endangerment charges after police allegedly found her under the influence in a running vehicle with a child in the backseat in a parking lot in Ledyard on Wednesday.
Angel L. Adamson, 49, of the Gales Ferry section of town has been charged with driving under the influence and risk of injury to a child, according to the Ledyard Police Department.
Police said a patrol officer was conducting a check at the Ocean State Job Lot on Route 12 when a running vehicle with its lights on was spotted around 12:30 a.m. in a dark area on the south end of the parking lot on the side of a business, facing the wooded area. The officer approached the vehicle and spoke to Adamson, who allegedly had a “strong odor of an alcoholic beverage” coming from her breath, according to police.
Police said she was questioned and was unsure how long she was in the lot. The officer also claimed that she had alcoholic beverages within her reach, and her child was in the back seat sleeping, according to police.
Adamson was arrested after allegedly refusing to undergo field sobriety testing, police said. She was released on a $1,000 non-surety bond and is scheduled to face a judge in New London Superior Court on Oct. 8.
