Kershaw County man accused of kidnapping victims at gunpoint, causing crash

KERSHAW COUNTY, S.C. (WIS) – A man was arrested after allegedly kidnapping multiple victims at gunpoint and causing a crash in Kershaw County.
The Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office said 34-year-old Raymond Lewis Bailey is charged with counts of kidnapping, pointing and presenting a firearm, burglary, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, assault and battery, felon in possession of a firearm and criminal domestic violence of high and aggravated nature.
The Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office and the Camden Police Department responded to an incident on Dicey Creek Road and Broad Street in Camden on Wednesday. The victim reportedly ran into a business and claimed someone was trying to kill them.
Investigators later learned the victim and Bailey had an argument on Dogwood Lane that turned physical before the victim fled the area.
The sheriff’s office said Bailey then entered another home and woke up a couple, forcing them into a car at gunpoint and ordering them to drive to where the victim went. Bailey then allegedly forced his way to where the first victim was, forced them into a second vehicle at gunpoint and made them drive.
While driving down Robinson Town Road, Bailey reportedly grabbed the wheel of the car and caused the vehicle to wreck into a telephone pole. Bailey and the victim were picked up by the other couple who were following them.
Deputies said they later pulled off onto a side road, where Bailey allegedly assaulted the victim and forced everyone back into the car.
The car eventually broke down on Dicey Creek Road, where the victim fled into a business and asked employees to call law enforcement.
The sheriff’s office said Bailey was located at a business on Broad Street, where he was taken into custody without incident.
Bailey is being held at the Kershaw County Detention Center.
